Heffron Park is the largest recreational park in Randwick City. It is a very popular park and well used for training and competition on weekends by a large range of local sporting clubs including netball, cricket, touch football, cycling, rugby union, rugby league, Oz tag and soccer.Â
Located within the park is the Des Renford Leisure Centre, Heffron Pedal Park, a children’s playground, Bunnerong Road Gymnasium, an outdoor criterium track and a number of public amenities buildings.Â
Heffron Park Tennis Centre, on Bunnerong Road, Matraville, has twelve synthetic courts and is open every day. Telephone 02 9661 6711 for more information.
A key feature of Heffron Park is the extensive 4.2 kilometre criterium cycle track. The park also provides opportunities for passive recreation such as walking, jogging, kite flying and ball games. There are many mature trees, both exotic and native, that provide shade, shelter and a fauna habitat. There are two children’s play areas within Heffron Park. In the south-western corner of the park behind the amenities building is a swing and slippery dip. A second playground with climbing equipment, see-saw and a swing is near the south-eastern corner of the park.Â
Ongoing improvements are being made to the park in accordance with the Heffron Park Plan of Management and Landscape Concept Plan.Â
These documents were developed in close consultation with the local community and they provide a 20-year vision to improve the park. In 2013 the Heffron Pedal Park Kids Bicycle Track opened and in the same year Council completed work upgrading the Des Renford Leisure Centre to include a new gym, crèche and fitness studios.Â
A synthetic sports field was added to the park in 2016 for soccer training and 5-a-side competitions, for more information about hiring this field visit DRLC website.
